Each lesson gives students hands-on experience, handling about 85% of grooming and tacking themselves under supervision. Lessons tend to begin with a warm-up, followed by riding exercises tailored to skill level and goals, with the instructor guiding every step for safety and effective learning. Students practice balance, control, even specific techniques while building confidence and responsibility. Every ride is designed to maintain and grow riding abilities.

Students enrolled in our lesson program for atleast six months or those who have been in a consistent program, demonstrating progress, may be offered the opportunity to test their skills by attending a horse show with Maple Ridge Farm. Participants will be paired with the horse we determine to be the best fit for their abilities.
MRF attends a variety of shows including, AQHA, APHA, ABRA, IBHA, AHA, ASBA (American saddle bred association) shows. In Michigan, CMHA (central Michigan horseman association), LMHA (lower Michigan horseman association), BHAM (buckskin), EMAA (Easter Michigan Arabian association), MRHA (Michigan Reining Horse Association), and many more
Lessons begin promptly at the scheduled time, and any time missed due to late arrival cannot be made up. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your lesson to have adequate time to tack up. If you arrive more than 20 minutes late to your scheduled lesson, you will be required to reschedule.
As warmer weather approaches, we kindly remind all students to adhere to our dress code policy. For safety and professionalism, the following items are not permitted during lessons: shorts, sandals, Crocs, or similar footwear.
Please ensure you arrive in appropriate attire. Failure to comply with the dress code may result in your lesson being rescheduled or denied.
